Rhiannon Seman wanted to do something for the children of India and she decided to host an India-theme dinner for family and friends. From donations raised at her benefit dinner she purchased a sewing machine for a disabled student and contributed toward the construction of a toilet at another school. The youth of America are learning they can make a difference in the lives of other young people, and in the process their own lives are enriched. |

Students in a sixth grade class in Los Angeles made a CD of songs they sang and sold copies in their community to help children who were traumatized by the Asian tsunami. They raised enough money to build a playground in the Indian village of Shanmuganagar which was completely destroyed by the tsunami in 2004. The teacher, Paul Astin, has continued the tradition of encouraging his students to help children in need. This past year, his class built another playground and purchased a water filtration unit for an Indian school. Vist their website www.room6musicians.com. |
