Caring for the environment doesn’t have to cost the earth

Can you spare the cost of a cup of coffee?

We do our best to make sure that our projects are environmentally friendly, but often they are quite large capital projects. We would like everybody to have the opportunity to be part of our work and so we came up with two, very affordable ways of helping.

Trees are crucial to out planet’s eco-system, yet they are being cut down at an alarming rate. Therefore we are planting saplings in India as part of an intercropping scheme to ensure there is a good mixture of traditional trees to be used for fruit, medicine, carpentry or firewood.

Two saplings, planted and managed costs just $4 – the cost of a cup of coffee.

Wood is the most used cooking fuel in the world, and for many people there is just no alternative. Therefore we have to provide a cooking source that is efficient in the way that it is used as a fuel.
We have teamed up with Philips and are promoting a cooking stove specifically designed for use in India, which uses not only wood, but also other biomass fuels such as dried cow dung. It is 60% more efficient than using wood on an open fire, as well as being designed to prevent the inhalation of harmful smoke that is estimated to contribute to 1.6 million deaths annually.

$25 will buy a family a
fuel efficient stove.

These are very practical and affordable ways to help the planet and very poor people.
